Andy Lau Tak-wah last night spoke for the first time about his marriage to long-time girlfriend Carol Chu (right with Lau) and apologised for lying, admitting he had previously married actress-model Yue Hoh-yan.

'I lied, and I have disappointed many people. I want to apologise to those who trusted me. I'm a public figure, and I have to be responsible for my behaviour,' Lau told the media at Chek Lap Kok airport after he returned from a job in Beijing. 'I have made a mistake. I have to do better in future.'

At the airport, he insisted he had no children and he said the girl seen at yum cha with his parents was his sister's granddaughter. When asked about his marriage with Yue, the only girlfriend that Lau had admitted to, he said 'yes', admitting that he signed a marriage certificate with Yue.
